Pilkington Creek Seasonal Cleanup

Join us as we launch a pilot project to restore the habitat in Pilkington Creek, located adjacent to the Museum in Tyrrell Park. August 14 & 21, September 11, and October 2 & 23.

Docent Training

Museum docents are volunteer tour guides, trained to interpret the Museum's exhibits for school children and other visitors. All you need to become a docent is a desire to learn about the natural world, a willingness to share what you know with others, and some free time during the week to attend training sessions and conduct tours. Mondays from September 13- October 4, 2010

Waterfowl that Whiten the Sky

This class spends two days in the field at various refuges and reserves in California's Central Valley. Breathtaking views of flocks of thousands of Snow Geese, so dense that they literally "whiten the sky", bring visions of a California only our ancestors experienced. December 4-5, 2010

Fungus Fair

The annual Fungus Fair is a uniquely Santa Cruzan tradition. The event features hundreds of species of Fungi, showcases speakers, cooking demos, a Kid's room, and a taxonomy panel for fungi identification. Coming in January, 2011

Natural science illustration captivates viewers with its stunning beauty. This one-day workshop, lead by Sarah Rabkin, will introduce visual and verbal tools for capturing your own alluring images of the colors, shapes, and stories of a day spent outdoors. Open to age 14 and up. Families and beginners especially welcome. Spring 2011

Join scientific Illustrator Christine Elder for a fun-filled day of art activities.  Participants will learn about the materials and techniques used in illustrations like those on exhibit for the Museum’s Art of Nature exhibit. Open to ages 10-14. Spring 2011

Nature and Survival Skills Summer Camp

This week-long camp is for young nature enthusiasts. Campers learn new skills such as fire by friction, making nature tools, and shelter building. The week culminates with an overnight campout. Summer 2011

Super Summer Saturdays

The Museum hosts this series of family programs every summer. Featured programs have included live animals, musical performances, and arts and crafts. Summer 2011

Schedule a self-guided tour of the Museum by calling us at (831) 420-6115 Tuesday through Friday, 10am - 5pm. Due to the size of the Museum all groups must have a reservation.
