Pilkington Creek Seasonal CleanupJoin us as we launch a pilot project to restore the habitat in Pilkington Creek, located adjacent to the Museum in Tyrrell Park. August 14 & 21, September 11, and October 2 & 23. |
Docent TrainingMuseum docents are volunteer tour guides, trained to interpret the Museum's exhibits for school children and other visitors. All you need to become a docent is a desire to learn about the natural world, a willingness to share what you know with others, and some free time during the week to attend training sessions and conduct tours. Waterfowl that Whiten the SkyThis class spends two days in the field at various refuges and reserves in California's Central Valley. Breathtaking views of flocks of thousands of Snow Geese, so dense that they literally "whiten the sky", bring visions of a California only our ancestors experienced. December 4-5, 2010 |

Fungus FairThe annual Fungus Fair is a uniquely Santa Cruzan tradition. The event features hundreds of species of Fungi, showcases speakers, cooking demos, a Kid's room, and a taxonomy panel for fungi identification. Coming in January, 2011 |
Birds of Morro Bay and the Carrizo PlainThis 2-day class explores two of the premier birding areas in California: Morro Bay and the Carrizo Plain. The class visits a variety of habitats to maximize the species diversification for the trip. Coming in January, 2011 |

Nature Notes & SketchesNatural science illustration captivates viewers with its stunning beauty. This one-day workshop, lead by Sarah Rabkin, will introduce visual and verbal tools for capturing your own alluring images of the colors, shapes, and stories of a day spent outdoors. Nature and Survival Skills Summer CampThis week-long camp is for young nature enthusiasts. Campers learn new skills such as fire by friction, making nature tools, and shelter building. The week culminates with an overnight campout. Summer 2011 |
