Weekly Buzzz… June 25 – July 1

Super Summer Saturdays starts this weekend! Join us tomorrow, July 2 for a lively, interactive performance by Santa Cruz’s own performing arts group ZunZun focusing on water conservation and watershed issues. With over 20 musical instruments from North, Central, and South America, ZunZun will entertain and educate the audience about important water issues in an engaging and humorous performance that all ages will love. Two shows- 10:30 am and 12:00 pm. While you’re here, be sure to check out The Penny Ice Creamery – they’ll be selling their tasty frozen treats at all of this year’s Super Summer Saturdays from 11am-1pm.

Thank you CISCO Systems volunteers! Yesterday morning, eighteen volunteers from CISCO arrived at the Museum from as far away as Pleasanton and as nearby as the Seabright neighborhood. They worked hard in the Garden Learning Center for four hours, removing the last of the ivy growing near the amphitheater, building rock edges along the flower beds, weeding the entire garden, transplanting Douglas iris, planting dozens of new native plants, and spreading mulch. Most of their work was concentrated behind the Museum, so the view from the amphitheater is greatly improved.  The transformation at the end of the day was truly amazing, and it was a pleasure to work alongside such a cheerful, hardworking group.

Tidepooling next week What better way to celebrate the end of a long holiday weekend than to help us collect new specimens for our tidepool touch tank? We’ll be meeting at 7:30am on Tuesday, July 5 in the parking lot where 41st Ave meets East Cliff. Look for Liz – she’ll be the one with all the buckets!
