A Magic Web: The Tropical Forests of Barro Colorado Island

July 12- September 7th

Seeds

The tropical forest of Panama's Barro Colorado Island is a luxuriant community of plants and animals, pulsating with life and offering an astonishing view of nature's myriad processes.  What does a forest look like?  How do the activities of this forest's plants and animals create a community?  This temporary exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute answers these questions through the vivid photography of tropical ecologist, Christian Ziegler.

Educational Resources

How can you help protect the world's tropical rainforests from your region of the world?

1.  Educate yourself and others about tropical forests.  Links here!

2.  Purchase items that are grown locally from your local farmer's market or grocery store.  For those things you like to eat that typically come from the tropics (mangos, chocolate, coffee, palm oil) buy fair trade organic.  Click here to help make trade fair.

3.   Write a letter to companies or corporations that destroy the rainforest.  Click here and here for more resources.
